Not only has social media rendered a vast amount of well meaning activism totally inert, but it's also divorced the Left from local issues to its own detriment. This isn't universal of course so don't take this for me shitting on everyone or everything, but it should be acknowledged.

It's true, and I'm guilty of this myself. I think a lot of people who feel overwhelmed by their inability to change things globally, would feel a lot better about life if they focused a little more on their local communities.

Feels that way on the microblogs. In my hometown at least there’s this whole lefty / progressive Facebook universe that is hyper focused on super local shit.
