I know this is a hot take as a scientist but I think using data as a plural noun always sounds unnatural and primarily functions as a shibboleth for scientists to maintain an in-group linguistic identity (and, implicitly, superiority)

I also notice that plural data is much more common amongst the numericists and experimentalists I know and essentially dead amongst theorists. I am not sure I've ever heard a theoretical physicist under 50 use plural data
