Canada Day is a good day to appreciate the virtues of constitutional monarchy as a system that sharply divides the roles "sovereign who is above the law" and "partisan governing executive facing reelection who is in in charge of the armed forces, the intelligence & prosecutorial agencies, etc."

My strongest, most long-held US Constitution opinion: ..is that the founding fathers' biggest design mistake wasn't the electoral college, the two Senators each etc. Its combining the roles and powers of Head of Government/Prime Minister, and Head of State/Monarch. Just a disaster for democracy.
