That’s the Perversity argument : en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Rhe... But it’s a fallacy to invalidate an argument simply because it takes the form of futility, jeopardy or perversity. Sometimes a proposal is indeed ineffective, too costly or even counterproductive.

The irony in “Eric” applying Hirschman’s framework here is that when a proposal like “Eric’s” has no redeeming qualities beyond wish-casting, the framework suggests considering the costs and risks of the proposal … which is then interpreted as Perversity, Futility, and Jeopardy.
