The problem is that they could easily delay delivering that crushing blow until it’s too late to resolve the federal cases against him before the election. Doing so would deliver another blow to the Court’s legitimacy but they don’t seem to care about that much anymore with a 6-3 majority.

IMO the majority of the court probably wants him out of the picture. Their own power is threatened by him.
