If the problem with fossil fuel exports is that there aren't enough royalties /taxes on them...... Would you be fine with huge fossil exports if there were huge royalties?
What if fossil exports were to crater due to climate action overseas leaving huge holes in state budgets?
The idea is to tax them sufficiently so that renewables become more attractive and investors shift capital to the transition, and use the tax revenue to also invest in the energy transition, and ease the impacts for lower income people and the most vulnerable
A somewhat related corollary (and unpopular opinion): we should have royalties related to "green energy exports" etc.
I would like that - (and/or at least the foundations for that to happen before they establish themselves/be come established enough to prevent that from occuring - a la PRRT)
Royalty and tax evasion by carbon bombers are not The problem, but they are a nice demonstration that these businesses are anti social, anti democratic and parasitic. Effectively taxing them would also mean less money spent on astro turf and politicians.
