I think what I appreciate about Doppleganger is that it doesn't frame disinformation and conspiracy theorizing as causal, but as a symptom of a deeper collapse in trust and legitimacy. As something rushing in to fill a narrative and explanatory void. It's refreshing.

What I think is most misguided about the disinformation industrial complex is mostly that ignores these questions, and frequently engages in a kind of counter-conspiracy theorizing, focusing on the people exploiting this collapse. They treat carrion animals like apex predators.
