I know this process has been long, and frustrating, and now we're getting politicians trying to make UBI illegal, BUT... It genuinely feels like the concept of "what if we just...helped people, no strings" has gone from a pipe dream on Star Trek, to an actual reality.

True, we're still not there. But people, not just in the US but in various other countries as well, got a taste of what it would be like if the government actually stepped in to keep us from dying of poverty. They took it away, but now we KNOW it's possible.
