It's long annoyed me reading comparative politics research that what I call 'checks & balances' they standardly refer to as 'separation of powers.' It felt pedantic to insist, but Bouie here highlights why pedantry on this point is essential: SoP invites fatal misunderstandings that C&B avoids.
