Aisling Franciosi was so damn good in the Nightingale, which is really the only reason I watched this one. I think what it was missing was any real sense of escalation. I had the same problem with Saint Maud. There's no sense that the character's fate was anything but inevitable.

Need to see The Nightingale. You're right about the lack of escalation, which is what frustrated me. I wondered if it was intentional, like mirroring the process of stop motion, which is so incremental that it feels like there's no forward momentum.
