Incredibly important research here because it gives us the chance to make decisions now that lower or eliminate risk. If a landslide happens in Milford Sound and nobody is there to get killed, it's not a natural(?) disaster. This is the kind of thing our science system is for. 🧪

Given the 'value of a statistical life' in NZ and what tourists pay to visit Milford Sound, it doesn't seem the risk is high enough we should try to discourage them. Clearer warnings might be good: if the Alpine Fault ruptures while you are in Milford Sound you will die.
