To give you an idea how "in touch" the people debating this in the UK are. One of them called the PM a "Tech brother" today, to which the PM responded saying "He'd probably have called James Watt a steambro." We're fucked.

I can kind of see it from an American point of view. Meta and Alphabet spying on people is okay, because they can just ask them for the info and get it. Tiktok means scary forrins can do it and might not cough up the data. In the UK we don't control any of them, or our data any more.
