It’s Canada Day, and many people bring out the fireworks. I always hated them, and wondered how everyone gave their children sparklers that get up to 2000°C, why not just give them acetylene torches to play with? When I worked for Treehugger I complained every year:

When my dad was a kid, a firecracker lit his baby sister's dress on fire and she burnt to death in front of him. He still cries at her grave every year. Some things you don't get over.
