great question! aside from the wordplay of byte/bite, i think it also comes from a burger/sandwich signifying consumption & desire in commercial art. there's also a famous piece of pixel art from 1985 called Four-Byte Burger that many artists copied, but i've found disk burgers from as early as 1983
