There’s a two-step required that is difficult (but not impossible!) to execute: 1. Get average, harried Americans to understand and accept that the GOP really will do the unpopular shit if given power, and 2. Overcome the GOP’s (unearned) branding regarding the economy.

My college buddy Billy’s trajectory… Jan 2016: “You’re so hyperbolic, Trump wouldn’t do that.” Jan 2019: “Okay he sucks but he has reasonable conservatives around him.” Jan 2021: “Oh shit...” Jan 2024: “I mean yeah, he was bad but my rent was $500 lower when he was in office.”
