This is accurate. Many freelancers worry about competing with AI, but that's a race to the bottom that humans can never win. Artists are more likely to thrive by rebranding themselves as a luxury service and in turn normalizing the truth that AI art is worthless slop.

I’d say $50 is okay for a commission that only takes an hour or two of work to complete. Beyond that yes, raise your rates. Art is a skilled craft and should not be making less than minimum wage.

Every year I raise them to account for inflation. My rates used to be very low a few years back but now my rates match a better amount and are treated as grochery cash. I even allow local buyers to just buy a gift card or inquire my needs and trade my service for a cart full of food :)
