One of the reasons I LOVED reading this book was that as a WWI Officer- when he explained WWI Battles - he discussed all the moves as if they made sense and were the latest science of war. Which they were. I was also on a WWI tour with @leger so it all came together... @CalaisFrom

I consider this an “indispensable” volume. For one, it is essential to understanding how a British inf bn operated. Second, it shows the true tenor of the officers and men—Graves despised this book btw—and clearly explicates the challenges before commanders and fighting men.
