The only way I can see it remotely working is if you keep all of the previous versions. A “this has been edited” notice with a link to the others

Not only that, but likes and shares should be tied to the exact version that was liked/shared, and not automatically updated to the latest version. A convenience link to the latest version should also be added to any older version. Sending notifications to users who liked/shared is a plus.
