My girlfriend has a Roku brand TV that knows when we’re watching something on a disc and will display a little pop-up at the beginning of the movie telling us where we can stream it, which is a great way to make me want to smash a tv

The infuriating thing my TV does is that every time I turn it on I need to change it back to "movie" or "filmmaker" mode from it's default of "sport" mode which interpolates everything to look like live TV or also operas when I'm trying to watch black and white movies from the 50s

I expect that'll get worse. IIUC, they filed a patent not long ago that was about showing you ads when their TV detects that you've paused your show.
