according to Veep, each state gets a vote for president, which means the red team would win, which means whoever Trump picks as his VP would be president. And I don’t think anyone would be more upset about this than Trump. Of course, then he could just become vice president and call all the shots

Each state gets one vote in the tie break scenario, that’s right. But it isn’t necessarily the VP candidate who wins. Trump can still win the tie break vote. I think veep had some extra weird scenario where the VP candidate won the tie break vote.
