My maternal grandmother was so shocked that I couldn't just go to a doctor and get amphetamines and benzos. She was very concerned about how they expected anyone to get anything done.

My mom was on amphetamines for weight loss until her pregnancy was confirmed (3-4 months along, I'm old). She asked about getting back on them in the 70s but no.
