Movies Silently

I kind of gave up on the idea of a top ten silent films list, so instead let me choose one recommended film per decade of projected silent cinema! 1890s: THE VANISHING LADY (1896) is a simple illusion but Georges Méliès shows that the secret to film success is in a charismatic performance.

1900s: AND THE VILLAIN STILL PURSUED HER (1906) a surreal and uproarious sendup of melodrama, complete with knife-wielding villain and escape via hot air balloon. Weird, witty and still fresh after nearly twelve decades.

Just do what I do and have a nervous breakdown trying to whittle your first pass that somehow ended up being 50+ movies down to just 10 but you just keep adding more
