Not nearly same level as that Banger but Archie comics spent decades referencing the band The Archie's and their Billboard no. 1 hit Sugar, Sugar and got so many fans writing in to ask where to get the song that they created a studio band called the Archies, released Sugar Sugar and it went to No. 1

I've got more to add to that: The Archies was produced by Don Kirshner, who was originally the producer behind The Monkees, a "pre-fab" and "fake" band that fired him after wanting to wrest creative control away from him and make their own music. A cartoon band couldn't fire him, I guess.
