I’ve given up on trying to speak with ex-students of Scruton in the UK philosophy scene about how evil he was. He adored Powell—literally buying his hunting jacket—and I don’t give a damn if he was personally nice to them.

He was very much alive and kicking when I was in grad school and my first few years out & at that time I was the only person in the anglophone world working in feminist philosophy of music, so was kind of always asked about his book and work and...yuck.
