Sobering but not surprising stat line from this piece: In 1990, Pomona College had 1487 students, 180 professors, and 56 administrators. By 2022, students rose to 1740, professors fell to 175, and admins...skyrocketed 6X, up to 310. The laugh/cry emoji feels particularly apt.

Colleges are technically "non-profit organizations" and indeed they do not have shareholders or owners, but the main beneficiaries of the wealth they generate are the admins, most of whom pay themselves massively more than the professors providing the actual product.

Even allowing for some positions that didn't exist in 1990 that probably should like officers dealing with dei, IT, etc. this is wild
