Maybe? I've just done the full process, and I have evidence that Meta received the request. The evidence, sadly, is an email that reads in pertinent part, "Thank you for contacting us. We don’t automatically fulfill requests[.]"

You get a reply telling you they will treat you no better than they are legally required to, and they will check the law for where you live. Which is an excellent argument for pushing for more legislation around this issue.
