All of the non-emissions related ones I’ve seen are for blatant and simple safety stuff: lights, brakes, mirrors, bald tires, etc.
I’m REALLY surprised they can put a worn transmission on that list. What, rough shifting is a safety concern now?
After some research, a simple email/fax blast to other shops might be worth your while…include a redacted copy of the 8k quote and just say something like you need a quote for ‘only the legally obligated repairs to achieve inspection compliance’.
I’m in VT. My check engine light is one due to some problem with my transmission. But to Dx the problem is more $$ than a new transmission is. Or something like that. The check engine light is the problem more than the trans is. It’s dumb. Cars are too complicated nowadays.
