There's no way those states don't have a mechanism for if a candidate dies, right? The rule can't be "sucks to be you" if your candidate croaks in July. Also wait how are states making their ballots before the DNC where they officially announce the nominee?

I mean they would also love a pretext to keep a Democrat off the ballot in a dozen states either way and prove that Trump v Anderson was another "different rules for Us vs Them" situation.

I don't read it that way. They don't care if, say, Harris would beat Trump or not; they want to rig it so the voters don't get a chance to decide.
