I had an argument with someone who objected to the settler colonial label and asked if Indian or Eastern European immigrants to the UK were settlers. My argument was that the UK doesn’t give immigrants more rights than natural born Britons.

I’m not well versed on the subject but it seems to me that the whole point is that colonial governments are built without the consent of indigenous people. An immigrant to Canada or the US would arguably be a settler by this definition.
