Although we had not a hydrocarbon based computer so comparison is not obvious, but I am yet to have a car which changing gas tank would cost a serious percentage of car price. For that matter, in last fifty years, out of lots of cars in my family only one needed to have some patchwork for the tank..

I bet you spend the same amount in *filling* the gas tank for 2.5 years as it costs to replace a battery every 10 though.
