Cons can be deceptively cheap, it's just generally not appealing to do cheaply if you're not young 20s. Most vacationing in my early 20s was cons and total cost usually ran $5-700 for the weekend. That's a very approachable vacation. Splitting room x4+shorter stay+little eating out+drive=lots saved

The nice thing about a con that makes it "cheap" as a vacation outlet is the floor is very financially low for the big reason you're there. Hang with furries, party, see friends, see art. None of which costs money to do, whereas something like visiting a city req spending $$ to get much out of it.
