Presumably they’ve tested for zoonotic transmission and mutation of covid? I know there were some early cases of it in dogs but news of that quickly died off as the pandemic got going. Infection is so widespread now it’d be weird if dogs weren’t getting it at least semi-routinely.

Found a kitten meowing on our street last month. Called the local shelter, they weren't accepting new cats until the unidentified respiratory illness that infected all their cats was resolved. So, yeah, we have a new kitten--Polly.
