It feels like a mix of conservative EICs, not wanting to have to write about Trump for fear of losing their “neutral” status, and reporters desperately wanting a horse race election because that’s what they’re comfortable writing.

Media doesn’t like good boring competent government. Can’t make easy money that way. Chaos and the downfall of American democracy brings way more news cycles in a nearsighted money grab before they are state controlled by a dictator with many journalists losing their lively hoods.
