this is more of an economic question than a political question. why did small factories and people leave small towns? because it was generally cheaper to ship production elsewhere. that decision was made by US CEOs, not politicians. no jobs means no people.

If there were small factories it was small cities, not towns. We went through this in with 60s/70s. In Post-war families, kids got educations/trades and left farms for work in cities. Families giving birth to the baby boom didn’t have farms large enough to support all the kids and grandkids.
