But god damn I swear those little colds gain momentum traveling between toddlers until they can buck the course and lay low even such a massive adult as myself

That's based on the false idea that the immune system is a muscle. It is not. We're it the case, childhood mortality ought to increase with improved hygiene. Did more kids die in the 1800s or 2000s?
