I think the "Politics would be interesting again" is actually extremely telling. As far as I can tell as a non-US person, having both primaries being effectively uncontested has really screwed with a lot of political commentators, who just want *something* to happen for them to write about.

Y'know, I hadn't thought about that: the commentators could have commentated for either primary, but... short of something preventing one of the candidates from being on the ballot, everything was really quite a foregone conclusion on both sides, this time.
