i will say that after the debate i talked w someone who follows politics more closely than most but doesn't watch trump day to day, and they were horrified by everything he said and how much more extreme he seemed than 2016 or 2020. n=1 but there you have it

in some ways i think it's easier to lose track if you follow it closely, like not noticing that a kid is getting taller if you see them every day
