This is nonsense. If Hillary Clinton won the presidency in 2016, all subsequent would not have unfolded otherwise unchanged but more liberal. People *react* to new things, and reactionaries don’t take “no” for an answer. They call the authority illegitimate and find a new one they control instead.

Donald Trump would have claimed the election was stolen and stoked hatred. You can easily see how he would have become even more popular over the next four years, dedicating himself to media attention and criticism, having to deliver no results of his own. Why would the GOP move away from him?
