I was JUST saying this!! Back in the day, it was the quickest, easiest way to learn about platforms and whatnot. We have the internet now. We can search and see what they stand for. Historically, bad debate performance is used as some measure of governing ability. The two are not equivalent.

The problem with televised debates is they go to the person who knows how to play the TV game better. Kennedy over Nixon, Reagan over Carter and Mondale and we all know what happened more recently.
