if anyone has difficulty blocking youtube ads, may i suggest switching browsers? google *deliberately* fucked adblockers' ability to work in chrome for the exact purpose of driving people to watch youtube's horrid ads.
How long until YT does the Amazon thing? "Hey, we know you paid for a subscription, but if you want it ad-free, that'll be another $2.99/month."
The "support creators" plea is bullshit, since they screw creators over on a regular basis. I'm not paying money for them to do that.
I wouldn't be trying to block the ads if they
1) didn't make so many of them
There was a display of the suggesting like 1 every 5 mins a while back if I recall
And
2) if there was better control on the topics they show to me. I've gotten so many ai, gay conversion and just awful things displayed
Longer and longer ads, creepier and creepier ads. Lots of fake medical bs, lots of IDF adjacent nonsense, lots of the world is ending buy prepper gear like food and tiny generators that wouldn't run a laptop for more than a day... Betterhelp.
When you keep advertising Temu and election lies and "The government will pay for your solar panels!" bullshit, you're damn right I'm going to block your ads.
Start cultivating your advertisers and stop allowing the dregs of humanity to shit in my face, then we'll talk.
I'll consider turning it off when, and only when, all ads go back to being those bottom-of-the-video banner ads
I didnt mind those
Dont interrupt my video watching with a tv ad
If I wanted that Id watch tv
Also as someone who was subscribed to YouTube Premium up until this year, why is the price for students almost half the price of a regular subscription (7.50€ compared to 13€)?
That just tells me YouTube can afford to go lower than their asking price but is just refusing to.
It's not like advertising generates any compensation for creators, let alone enough to count as an actual income, otherwise every single one wouldn't have to hawk a Patreon or sponsorship.
