There's also good ol' Mouse and Keyboard setups. There are several tutorials on how to do it with MelonDS which is fairly easy to configure, shown in this tutorial.

However, this came with a problem. If the mouse leaves the second screen of the emulator, the mouse stops moving until you put it back in the screen. Luckily, someone has made a tool to fix this issue.
