I lived in New York (the city, lower Hudson Valley) back when I was an active birder, now in Michigan...this map tells why I'm not seeing them. We have turkey vultures of course, many of 'em. TVs, to the birding crowd.

I lived in Yonkers for a year, right on the Hudson. I don't remember TVs but that doesn't mean they weren't around. I noticed birds but wasn't actively birding.

I’ve never noticed them in eastern MA. Looks like we are just shy of their range.
