In 2023, only 0.5% of all VC funding for U.S. startups went to Black founders. The first time it was less than $1B since 2016. It has declined every year since 2021.
They'll try to kill programs like this, Black Ambition Prize, Google's Black Founders Fund and then act like Black ppl don't innovate.
just a chic neoliberal version of burning down the neighbourhood BEFORE it gets meaningful capital. they're really just fucking evil and unashamed about it.
I would call the program "absolutely normal grants for everyone" and then give them only to black women and a white man here and there every year or so. If they ask/protest, you tell that your program is not biased and only the best projects get the grant. It works in reverse I don't see why not.
Ugh. Exhausting. Along with these hits on the small, belated, and under-funded private sector efforts to bring more BW / Black Men +other non-trad groups into the tech ecosystem, these RW Goons also are tryna take out U.S. MBDA at the US Commerce Dept--only Fed agency that funds Inclusive Innovation
Damn. The court case against Hello Alice getting dismissed might have been an exception. (Yes I'm linking to the press release; it has less ads then the news coverage) www.prnewswire.com/news-release...
I donโt want to read how you and @jay.bsky.team could share a similar experience. I believe now is the time when a post mortem on the product cycle of a platform would be helpful.
