Carter G. Woodson is known as "The Father of Black History". He was so indispensable to the promotion and continuance of black history that he launched "Negro History Week" in 1926. That week is both Lincoln's and Douglass' birthdays were celebrated.

Interesting note, Douglass' birthday is not documented which would've been the reality of being born into slavery. Douglass himself chose February 14th to celebrate his birthday. More info on BHM in the link below:
