supreme court is actually a really good model for why creating tiny groups of people that are solely responsible for [very important thing] with little oversight, no accountability, and only a superficial expectation of reasons-giving is a bad idea bc these groups will always stagnate into cowardice

it's also why i'm kinda leery of "what if we give MORE unelected people lifetime appointments with near unlimited power? That'll fix things!" takes. what if we reduced the number of people with that kind of power? to zero?
