THIS IS HUGE! Researchers at JHU have identified the Aplp1 protein, which facilitates the spread of harmful alpha-synuclein proteins in the brain as a novel therapeutic target for Parkinson’s disease AND a potential therapy using an EXISTING FDA-approved cancer drug. 🧪🧵⬇️
I know we had discovered there was a sort of plague buildup around the hippocampus, this is a great step towards developing a therapy it's sounds like. I'm not much of a chemist but as a psych major I studied up on Parkinson's so I could help people cope.
I love seeing when you post exciting breakthroughs like this and the full context and significance.
Feels like there’s been a lot of big steps lately.
Do you feel like we’ve had a streak of good research news as well?
Or have I just been unaware?
