Volunteer in Vermont smfr 2010-2013 at the time the only college fire crew to be first responders off campus. Overall the culture was very Broey especially with the majority female classes that came up after me. We had openly gay and trans members, mostly in rescue. Folks dated everyone.

However relationships were expected to ‘end’ on duty. We had a lot to prove to the community so any whiff of impropriety or favoritism could be an excuse to shut us down. The Job was more important. In reality things got messier but that isn’t for the open internet.
