I watch a lot of WW II documentaries. One two-part:one was composed totally of German home movies, news reels, and excerpts from diaries and letters. That is where the memory of doom over the NSDAP call for furs came from. The promised quick victory over the USSR was not forthcoming.

One has a casual off the record Finnish conversation Hitler had with Carl Mannerheim in 1942. Hitler was commenting (he sounds MUCH different in private) how surprised he is to find how huge the Soviet army and heavy arms industries are.
