The SCotUS decision came down the Friday before my husband and I got married. It's been so long ago yet barely a moment, and we've got to protect marriage equality for everyone, especially those who haven't yet been able to take advantage of it!

I’m old enough that I grew up and spent all my young adult years under the assumption that marriage would always be illegal for me and most of my peers So I’m still a little paranoid that the option to marry is a gift that might be taken away again any day 🙃

I was 15 at the time and just starting to become politically aware and I remember reading the news and I fucking cried I was so happy! It feels like it was just yesterday and that just shows you how short of a time ago it truly was.

While I’m glad Australia followed suit in legalising same sex marriage, I will not forgive or forget the 2017 plebiscite effects on Australian LGBT. Some truly heinous stuff was dragged into the sunlight, as I’m sure the USA saw this too :/
