I feel like a lot of the partisan assymetries make more sense when you take into account that Dems have more choice of constituency than the GOP does. The GOP is centered around serving one particular kind of person. The White male cishet WASP, etc.

The rank and file members of their base have a lot of power over the GOP and make a lot more stringent demands. Partly ofc this is because they are otherwise privileged ppl, but esp in this context the GOP leadership can be compelled to listen because they don't have anyone else to go to.
